Join us at 2:30 pm on Sunday September 8th for our Welcome Back Swedish Crayfish Dinner with traditional (and non-traditional) group sing along. Come enjoy the fellowship of Drott Lodge with an afternoon meal including, but not limited to, crayfish which are a staple of Swedish summer celebrations. We will bring an end to the summer and gear up for our fall programming and Christmas bazaar.
This annual event is FREE to all dues paying members! Suggested donation of $15 to guests over 12 (free to children 12 and under). Please RSVP here: https://mp.gg/88rdz
The meeting will be in two main parts:
Firstly, we will have a solemn remembrance of our dear member Gerry Schueman who, sadly, passed away on July 3, 2019. We will Drape the Charter in celebration of Gerry. Members will be offered the opportunity to speak about their memories of Gerry.
Secondly, as part of our Business Meeting, we will discuss the current financial information for Drott Lodge. Members will receive by email, prior to the meeting, Profit-and-Loss statements and Balance Sheets for the period of January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2018 and for the period of October 1, 2018 – September 29, 2019.
Summaries of the financial results will be discussed for our two 2018 bazaar activities — our own bazaar and our participation at the SWEA/HoS bazaar. A proposed budget for year 2020 will be presented for review and approval by the Membership. The proposed budget will include proposed allocations, among others, for meeting and cultural activities, Special Goals donation and administrative expenses.
A Memorial service for Gerry Schueman will be held on October 26th, 2019 starting at 10.15 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 1545 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA 22101. Doors will open at 10 a.m. There will be a reception after the Memorial service.
Margaret Schueman has requested to receive RSVP’s. Participation can be submitted by sending a brief RSVP email to Arne Dunhem at firstname.lastname@example.org

The cultural program at the February meeting is ‘An Emigrant’s Story’. CGR Janet Johnson (Drott Lodge member) will take us on a journey from Enoch Mattson’s homeland in Borstil, Sweden to his new home in Prentice, WI. Members will also create an interactive map to share where their Swedish emigrants came from in Sweden and where they landed in the USA.
SACC-DC and the Embassy of Sweden are thrilled to extend the invite to Swedish Heritage Night of 2020! Only $49 – includes a Caps T-shirt for everyone.
Cultural program: Pelle the No-Tail Cat. Marit Knollmueller, District 9 Cultural Leader and Drott Lodge Member, will take our members on a cat’s-eye journey through the streets of Uppsala. This family-friendly event is based on the popular children’s books by Gösta Knutsson.

Participants are encouraged to wear a Midsummer flower wreath, display Swedish flags and blue/yellow decorations and, if you want to go all out, you can decorate your own maypole! Just like our normal Midsummer celebration, please enjoy a Swedish summer picnic in your home. Don’t forget to bring out your snaps or drink for the toast! Activities will include sing-alongs with Scandinavian musicians and singers and other activities we can do together.
